Very intelligent

It's definitely a grower, this time, but I felt from the beginning that I'd eventually adore it.
There is a lot to discover, mainly in the background, which makes it very soundscapy and really works for it on repeated listens.
Drums are very inventive on this, for instance. They build up very cleverly, and are sometimes widely syncopated without that dominating the overall feel.
All the parts blend perfectly. It really reveals itself to be very delicate, as choppy as it may come over.
In other words, awesome. Best you've submitted since 'Sleep Deprivation'. Big 5/5.

I made something corny! (Again?) I'm really curious what you think of my "Kakariko Polka"...

attemptedperfection responds:

many thanks! glad you liked it! even if I really haven't submitted more than two finished tracks since 'Sleep Deprivation'... maybe I should finish up some of those previews... I've been hard at work on my new album, though, so that's taking up quite a bit of time. This one was actually something of a break... at any rate, I'll head over to your page and have a good download or two. Thanks again for the review!

Woot!

Dude this is awesome, so far, you really do wonders with a modest beat, some spacey fx, an eerie melody and two carefully placed jazz chords! Seriously, it's the most atmospherical 30 seconds or so I've ever heard.
The 8 on effort is because it's way too friggen short of course. I'd really love to hear what you make from this.
Thanks for reviewing my song, do some more if you like (because this one was a bit of an odd one out...) - and you'll now be receiving the quid pro quo and get some 5-age on your latest submissions!

TheSuitcase responds:

I love support!
Thanks for the review.

Stunning.

Superb, this. I love Mussorgsky too!
Composition and arrangement are awesome (great original but catchy theme), it's clear that you know very well what you're doing, harmonically. It's also great how you managed to come so near the intensity of actual instruments, with what I assume are VST plugins. Damn! I need to catch up on using those things!
Loved the coda bit as well. Yeah, truly fantastic work.
Listen to my piano piece "Exit Moscow" sometime, if you like it, we could make a Russian suite! XD
Don't expect the clarity of that to come anywhere near this though.

Metalcan responds:

Thanks for the nice review! I listened to Exit Moscow, and it was very cool!

Crafty!

As a remake of the original, it's flawless. Good use of samples and synths to copy the original arrangement. The mood is, as with the Intro you did, very much Metroid, so props for that.
However, the song in itself is kinda dull when you're not actually playing the game, so I'd have preferred you to have your own way with it some more. I feel it lacks a bit in the authenticity I gave you praise for on the Intro.
But that may just be a matter of preference. Overall, good solid job, 4/5.

Distortzion responds:

Thnx for the review :D

Maybe this should be used in a flash...

Hm.

I wouldn't worry about the mastering yet, what I would do is
a) have more fun while making audio, because out of your review responses it seems like you're pressuring yourself to get better in no time,
b) experiment with countermelodies: if you're using two synths, have them play different lines - in this case, the theme is ascending, so you might want to add a descending melody. Also, a syncopating bass line, that co-operates with the kick, works wonders.

Your beats are fine, I dunno if they're pre-made or anything but I don't really care, as long as it triggers you to be imaginative. Just keep submitting but I'd say make your stuff a little longer so there's more to talk about. Don't worry about your potential.

SpamWarrior responds:

a) yes i am pressurin myself, its probably a bad idea, but i fucked up a uni course due to not doing anything for a year, and feel like i need to catch up with my own life
b)i'm using at least 5 synths, previous incarnation used 13 or so, so i'm learning SOMETHING. Each one is aimed at counter melodys, ie up n down octaves, tho i probably do not make it complex enough in the right places.

Chords dont seem to fit nicely to the bassline yet, they sound funny and fuck it up.

There is supposedly a kind of syncopated morphing bass sound, thats taken me 4 days to find, but clearly i've fucked up there :( Thats the problem with listenin to your own loops on repeat, do it too often under the influence and you start to only hear what you want to hear. I hope that day never comes for you.

I'll take the beats as a half compliment as i wrote them myself in the redrum, but i've not touched the finer dynamics of it, just tried makin a decent rough beat.

I agree, i really want to write longer bits, and they'll come to me, but i'm tryin to work out all the sounds at the mo and how they bend each other :S
When i know reason, then i'll relax.
Lol, is there a moral message in there somewhere?

Thanks for the honest review. It is appreciated.

Neat, neat, neat.

Of those bands you suggested I only know (and adore) the Melvins, and I certainly see the comparison. Loved it, guitar bass drums anything, until the solo - I'd have preferred some tremolo picked noise, this made it lean too much toward sophistication in my opinion. Otherwise ace. 5/5

Cool!

I mostly agree with Zenon. I think this would really benefit from a more silent introduction. Then just let it expand like it does now, have an even more silent interlude, and then expand even more, and end abruptly. Of course, this is just my suggestion.
I really like the idea and the composition, it's simple but very vivid. Good job so far! Let me know when you finish it.

Cool!

Beautiful guitar sound! You're still a great player - what makes you special is that you have a great feel for atmospheric arranging. This is very resigned and melancholic, but still uplifting and even catchy, in a way :)
Again the drums are a bit of a weak point though... it sounds like you are playing them directly from a keyboard - if so, you should experiment with sequencing them one way or another.
But the composition is great, my favotite part is the part where you ascend on the lower string and continue playing the open high strings. It's distorted, yet transparent. Very well done.

pitbulljones responds:

cheers yet again wintang, your a true hero, up there with rucklo for honesty and critiqing. Cheers for the compliment, ido like to create a good atmosphere, helps to portay a mood.

the drums are straight from fruityloops, i've decided to ditch my samples and slicing for the creation of my own, and yea it does sound like theyre off a keyboard, very midi-ish, i'll have to have a look at how i can change em, find some more fitting sounds. the tune is simple, ive gigged this with just me singer before with no effects or anything and it's always got a gud reception, sometimes simplicity works.

Thanks yet again.

gasp.

This was terrifyingly genius Khuskan. It sounds very professional, it's VERY well-written (though I'll have to listen to it again to make out all the lyrics), musically insanely simple and still interesing, and totally deserving a good flash to go with it (I'm thinking toward theweebl's stuff - why not send him an e-mail?). You perform it very well, it tickles the imagination :)
Awesome work. Fifen.
Say, care to review some of my stuff?

Nice...

Cool idea. I like all variations except for the techno one, but that is just because I'm allergic to classical themes in house mixes :)
The metal one is the best, although clarity suffers most there.
Not much else to say, except that you could make it longer, following the format of the original more closely, starting it up ppp and ending it fff, accelerating all the way through.
