My last review before submitting to sleep

This is pretty damn great again, nicely loose... loved the scratchy synth and the sparse pad snippets. Mastering is wonderful as usual!

But I feel it should've really climaxed in the end... I'd been waiting (by no means impatiently) a while for that breakbeat to get in full gear and craved for some really heavy hypnotizing D'nB action, full on bass, gradually increasing dynamics Underworld-style. That I might bob my head, close my eyes and pretend I'm having an LSD trip.

Probably not what you intended though. Oh well :)
5/5 anyway.

Off to bed I am.

Maybe a longer piece would help - If would definitely need all of the above if it were another 3 or 4 minutes longer.

As for intention - there really wasn't any :D - I just sort of poured it all into a bowl and shook it a little - baked it at 350 for 20 minutes and this is what came out. Sort of a musical quiche I s'poze...

WinTanks !!!

The name is Beck... Jeff Beck

Wonderful. Hammond work is ace. Guitarwork is perfect. Great to see you put so much thought in details again, like the various drum fills, the little modulations. Overall structure is wonderful. I've heard Pat Metheny a few times, quite liked it but found some of it to be a little overproduced. I can't say that for this piece - it has, to quote another great musician, "everything in its right place".
Your music is so transparant man, I can hear everything you're doing, wishing I'd thought of it myself. I'm a fan.

sorohanro responds:

thanx
as usual, a very nice review with very kind words for my music ...
thanx again
structure was a work in progress, i started this and after the guitars were recorded i felt that is somehow empty and i made the middle part (bridge, "B" theme... whatever)
weyrd way to work ...

Priceless.

This is just utterly brilliant.
I'm just going to deviate from my habit of pointing out the individual components of songs. Everything is well-placed. It grooves me to death. It's melancholy, funkiness and Middle East propaganda combined :)

Priceless.

sorohanro responds:

LONG LIVE TO PROPAGANDA !!!

Yeah. Yeah. YEAH!!

I owe you some reviews, good sir. I've been listening to your stuff already, and it's really some of the best I've come across. You have talents on many platforms and the productive skills to back them up.

As for this track, great work: it's very funky, and rich on detail. Somewhat cheesy in parts which only adds to the fun. Hints of Zappa, and Beck, and maybe even a little Basement Jaxx :)

Highly enjoy your stuff man, I think I already fived all your tracks, but I'll doublecheck! Keep submitting, you'll eventually get famous here. And probably even outside of Newgrounds.

sorohanro responds:

thanx for the very nice review.i was in Lithuania for one month ,so i didn't had time to respond to reviews and check on works, but now...hehe...now!!!
thanx again

gasp.

Hey!
This is very nice!!

The vocals are decent, unconventional which is always applaudable, even though I don't particularly like them. :)
The arrangement is wonderful and I love these swaying 6/8's. You found a nice balance between synths and (probably semi-)real instruments, and the mastering is very thorough. The drums are great.

Great job, you're a find!

5/5!

Nostrap responds:

Coming from you that means a lot :)

One-line summary

My head spins from all the name changes. Ok, Syntrus is ZeroLevel from now on :)

I can be short about this song, I liked all elements except for the drums. They were too loud and too aggressive, mainly the clap... I'd have much preferred some reverbed or otherwise muffled breakbeat type of stuff.
Otherwise, there's lots to enjoy, the vocoder snippets and delayed synths are very cool.

Keep em cominnnn

Syntrus responds:

You know it dude

Dude.

It seriously is an awesome track. Everything is great, subtle, crisp lo-fi, pattern over pattern over Patton :P
Seriously, it's Patton without the self-satisfaction he sometimes gets across. You have that same knack for adding a corny element and make it sound intimidating.
Lots of gems in this. I've not nearly found them all in the 10 listens I must've had now. To name a few I grew to love already: the offbeat bass part with the delayed guitarness, the meandering voice lines, the translation of the rhodes theme to guitar...
Seriously. One of the best things I've heard on NG. That's even including my own stuff, and I think my own stuff totally rules, so there.
I'll spread some word about this when I can. It's way too good to never be noticed.

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

hehe, cheers mate, nevertheless, if ur brain wasn't so drug addled u would be finding flaws here i am certain.

All tens :)

Hehe... this time it's a tad Tomahawk-y as well :)

Totally good man, this. I've listened to it a couple of times now and as I suspected, it grew on me.
Intro is great fun, just when it seems to lose all sense it repeats the line. Skillfully composed and played, very unconventional but still coherent. That reversed... something... sent a chill down my spine at times. I also really dig that sample in the background, sort of a wind sound but with a distinctive pitch - it's details like that that make a difference!
The 2nd guitar is a great addition, gives it a bit of 12-string feel and wouldn't have hurt to go on for a while longer.

After the break, I have to admit it takes a little time to get used to what happens. But the vox kick ass and the semi-palmmuted lead (say hi to Duane Denison) puts everything back in (dis)order.

I was sort of expecting it to explode into some hyper psychedelic thrash rock, and while I know that you make it your duty not to live up to expectations, I think that may just have been the ultimate finishing touch for this. It's already worthy of a 10 as it is, though.

If you want to add some vocals to "Time for bed", I'd be delighted. PM me, I can give you the wav of it or at least a better mp3.

Great job again. I'll check more of your stuff in the near future. We should consider combining our efforts some time - I'm thinking guitar hybrids with crazy breakbeats, distorted sqeals, whatever, it could be lots of fun :)

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

yo wintang, glad u enjoyed this one, i've been cranking it out my car stereo today.
didn't really think about tomahawk when i was making it, just naturaly comes through, patton on the brain:/ but yeh, now u mention it the palm mute is a bit duane. as for some htp rock at the end, i was gonna take it up a notch but my cpu was growling at me and i couldn't be bothered to mix down all the vox and guitar on the second half (already had to do the intro) so i copped out and gave it a cheap ending. hmmm, i really am not a vocalist but i'll sure as hell listen to time for bed again and see if i can think of summin. as for a collab, would be good, i think we have similiar musical sensibilities

Dude!

Well, apparently the line is thin, but I totally loved this track. I was reminded of Massive Attack this time.

It has a very warm sound, it really surrounded me, and it still had that eerie feel you seem to have a patent on :)

Great delicate touches like the stuttery synth. The guitar sounds wonderful and totally blends in.
Screw it, all tens for this. This really is pitbulljones at his best in my book!

ps Dying to know what you think of my newest, Time for bed.

ps2 If you've got lyrics, I'd love to take a shot at some vocals - just PM me.

pitbulljones responds:

wassup 'tang. Massive attack you say? wouldnt have thought of that but i think its thebeat that does that.

warmth and eerieness too, cool like that. you know i alwys try to create atmoshpere anyways. that stutter synth is from crystal which i love. and theres 3 guitars in total, a very subtle reversed chorus/flange chord and the distorted flange chorus delay riff. plus the clean distort pick.

thanks for the tens and another great review.

pitters

i'll be sure to check your new tune out. no probs there mate.

Cool hehehe

Dude, cool stuff - it sounds a bit like a leader for an 80's police series :)
Catchy and energetic and very cool!

DarKsidE555 responds:

LoL, you really think so? XD

Cool beans man! Glad you enjoyed listening to it...ya hippie! :-P
